20/12/2006

The french company announces that its vessel, the CMA CGM HUGO (8,200 TEUs), has received the Green Flag award from the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach. The Group received the award in recognition of its efforts throughout 2006 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Long Beach Port area. It also reflects the Group's commitment to pursuing an environmental policy based on continuous improvement. The Green Flag Incentive Program offers an honorary award for vessels that 100 % comply with speed limits in a zone that extends 20 nautical miles (32 km) around the port. Reducing vessel speed cuts down on fuel-oil consumption, which helps decrease greenhouse gas emissions. According to the Port of Long Beach, if all vessels would follow these guidelines, nitrogen dioxide (NO2) emissions could be reduced by up to 550 tons per year. It is a real source of pride for the Group to receive this award associated with a company that respects the environment.
